“And I Tread a Troubled Track…”

“My odds are stacked
I’ll go back to black”
- Amy Winehouse, Back to Black

Troubled singer, Amy Winehouse, was found dead by a member of her security team this past Saturday, July 23rd, in her London home. Police sources have stated that no drugs were found in her apartment and that the cause of her death is non-suspicious, but still unknown. An autopsy is scheduled to take place today, Monday, July 25th.

Approximately 24 hours before Amy’s body was found at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Amy’s doctor visited her at her home, reports England’s Daily Telegraph. Reports say that the doctor has been visiting Amy on a regular basis to help her cope with the effects of years of drug and alcohol abuse.

An anonymous source has told the tabloid, The Sun, that the doctor had no trepidation regarding the singer after he left her apartment on Friday night, and that she has been having regular check-ups due to her poor health.

At the age of 27, Amy joins Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain and many others in the tragic “27 Club,” which is comprised of famous musicians who have all died at the same age.

After the startling news of her death, my Facebook newsfeed was filled with Amy Winehouse status updates. Sadly, I saw many updates that said she had it coming, that she deserved it or “who cares about Amy when 93 people are dead in Norway?” Although the attacks in Norway are completely heartbreaking, there is also a family who is mourning the death of their beloved daughter. It saddens me to see status updates such as those listed above; I think my “friends” should have way more respect for the deceased and their loved ones.

Have you or any of your users seen disrespectful or ignorant status updates that you wish you could just ‘dislike’ instead of ‘like’? Then set up the new Get Dislike Button for Facebook offer! Users can get the new Facebook app that allows you to dislike statuses, comments, pictures, and many more… Conversion occurs on download and has a pay-out of $1.00.

I hope Amy is finally at peace and knows that she will be missed by her wonderful family and amazing fans all over the world.

Too Hot to Handle?

I know Kim and I always discuss the weather at some point in our blog entries, but today’s temperature is really something to talk about! In Buffalo Grove, Illinois, where our office is located, it is currently 100 degrees out, but feels like 112. On the news this morning, they said that many other states are currently suffering from this severe heat index so make sure you don’t spend too much time outside and keep hydrated!

What do you like to do when you’re stuck indoors? If I’m not sleeping, I keep busy by reading, running on my treadmill, or watching past seasons of my favorite TV shows. Like Harry Potter, the Clickso team enjoys the series True Blood which airs every Sunday at 8 pm on HBO. This show is based on The Southern Vampire series of novels by Charlaine Harris (which Kim is actually in the middle of reading) and focuses on the co-existence of vampires and humans in Bon Temps, Lousiana. True Blood started its fourth season a few weeks ago, and I must say it’s turning out to be my favorite season yet. For all of our affiliates who aren’t into the show, I won’t go into detail about it, but I will say it’s definitely a show that’s worth getting into!

Watching TV is without a doubt one of my favorite pastimes so I come across infomercials for inventive products all the time. Do any products come to mind when you think of infomercials? Kim actually just told me about the Tiddy Bear, and if you don’t know what I’m talking about: look it up! I just put up three brand-new offers for products that your users may not have had enough time to call in and order during a short infomercial. Here’s some info on our newest As Seen On TV campaigns:

- Aluma Wallet: Fashion meets function with this trendy, indestructible wallet. Made of die-cast aluminum alloy, it protects against identity theft and keeps RFID cards safe! This offer pays out at $8.50, has a conversion percentage of 7.14% and an EPC of $0.82.

-EZ Move: Move furniture with ease! EZ Moves gives you up to 10x your natural strength. Just lift, place and move furniture across any floor. Get paid $11.50 for each lead; this offer has a conversion percentage of 7.34% and an EPC of $1.14.

-SpaceBag: Triple your storage space with SpaceBag storage packs. SpaceBags let you save time and space in your home, freeing up much needed room for other cherished belongings. This offer is doing awesome at a 7.61 conversion percentage and an EPC of $2.02. Get paid $19.75 for each valid lead.

Who knows, maybe you’ll see some infomercials for these offers while spending the next few days indoors… Stay cool, everyone! 8-)

The Perils of Texting While Driving
No Comments Posted by: Krissy

Happy Monday everyone, how was your weekend? Mine was very relaxing as I spent the weekend in Champaign with my boyfriend, Aubry. If you’ve read my last blog, you’ll see that I was anxiously awaiting the final Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. I saw it Saturday night, and of course, I absolutely loved it! I drove back to Chicago yesterday morning, and I’m going to admit that I actually tweeted about the film while driving home. How many of you text (as well as tweet) while driving?

I’m guilty of doing so many times in the past, but I’ve heard of fatalities regarding texting and driving and I’ve realized it just isn’t worth it. I admit that I tweeted while driving yesterday, but no one was in front of me and I was driving straight on 57 North. I also text while at red lights, but I swear that’s it! I know what you’re all thinking: these are just excuses. They absolutely are, and I don’t want to continue this habit that could result in harming myself or others.

Here are some startling facts that I found on the website, textingndriving.com:

- 80% of crashes, and 65% of near crashes, involved some form of driver inattention within 3 seconds of the incident

- 57% of American drivers admit to texting behind the wheel; 34% of teens admit to texting while driving whereas 27% of all adults report texting while driving

- the US Department of Transportation reports that distracted driving played a role in nearly 6,000 deaths and 500,000 injuries in 2009

Scary, huh? :( Do your users feel the same way as all of you do about texting and driving? Then pick up the Stop Texting While Driving – Email Submit offer! Users can pledge to stop texting and driving, and in return, get a FREE* SmartPhone plus Bluetooth headset. Details apply. This offer converts on an easy email submission, and has a pay-out of $1.30.

Let’s all try and kick this dangerous habit of ours, and stop texting while driving!

Accio Harry Potter Tickets!
No Comments Posted by: Krissy

Early Monday morning, the Chicagoland area was hit with a powerful thunderstorm that uprooted hundred year old trees, knocked over streetlights, and caused over 298,000 customers in the northern suburbs to be without power. The Clickso office lost its power during the storm, but was lucky enough to get it back yesterday afternoon. Because of the power outage at our office, today is our Monday!

Although it may be the start to our work week here at Clickso, for the rest of you, it’s officially Hump Day. This means we are less than a day and a half away from the midnight premiere of the final movie of the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II. Here is a surprising fact: every member of the Clickso team is a huge Harry Potter fan. Kim and I are even planning to wear Harry Potter t-shirts to work this Friday to celebrate the release of the final movie!

I’ve definitely got big plans to attend the midnight premiere of the Deathly Hallows Part II, and for such a huge premiere, you can bet that I will NOT be buying my ticket at the door. Instead, I’ve already purchased my ticket through my new iPhone 4 using the movie application, Flixster. I love my new iPhone and how convenient it was to acquire my ticket.

Do your users crave the new iPhone 4 as much as I crave Daniel Radcliffe? (He plays Harry, in case you didn’t know!) Then you can pick up two of our newest iPhone 4 email submit offers: the Apple iPhone 4 and the Free iPhone 4 and iPad 2 – NEW. Both require participation from the user and have a pay-out of $1.50.

I will leave you all today with my favorite Harry Potter quote:

“Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”

- Albus Dumbledore, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Movin’ on Up?
No Comments Posted by: Kim

I can’t believe it’s Friday already, but hey, I’ll take it! I feel like yesterday I was just coming back from the long holiday weekend! Guess that’s because we only had a 4 day work week! I think every week should be a 4 day work week… that would be nice, right?

Of course I have to talk about the weekend! Right now, Krissy is on her way to Chicago to go to a concert. Can you guess which one? If you’ve been reading our blog posts you know it’s Britney Spears! I think she’s mentioned her in just about every blog so far :) . But I’m definitely jealous; I would have loved to go to that concert too! I’m sure she’ll have a blast! As for me, I have no big plans for the weekend. I think tonight I’m seeing the movie Horrible Bosses that came out today. That looks pretty funny! Then Saturday I actually might meet up with Krissy in Chicago!

So, I know it’s Friday and I should write an upbeat, happy blog about shopping or something…but one of our top campaigns right now is the Unemployment Survival Guide. And it got me wondering if our economy is doing any better lately. I haven’t been paying much attention because I am very lucky to have found a job when I did. But I was in the same boat as many people are right now. I know it started to get really bad in 2009. So many people got laid off, people who’ve been at companies for 15+ years lost their jobs, new college grads couldn’t find jobs, etc. It’s really tough when it hits home and you personally know people who get laid off or you yourself spend 10 hours a day job searching and nothing comes of it!..yes that was me for a long time because I graduated college right when things got bad! I can’t even imagine how bad some people are suffering.

It’s sad to think how high the unemployment rate is. The unemployment rate for the U.S. has been rising for the last 3 months and is currently at 9.2%, that’s about 14 million people who don’t have jobs! The last time the percentage of people who ARE working was this low was in 1984. AND the nation’s total payroll is 7 million shy of what is was when the recession began in 2007. Honestly, this is all pretty scary if you think about it.

I really hope things get better soon. With the economy the way it is, it really limits people in many aspects of their life. It diminishes people’s spending power, their motivation and even their well-being. Makes me sad to think about! But there’s a lot of things people can do to help themselves until the economy gets better. Affiliates, help them out a little by picking up the Unemployment Survival Guide. Users have to simply complete the form and it’ll take them to their state’s unemployment information. As a bonus to those who sign up, an email is sent outlining the step-by-step process you need to follow to get the maximum benefits allowed. The pay-out is $1.65 and the EPC is $.90! This offer converts on the first page. Kind of a bittersweet offer, right?

Ok, enough of this sadness! Sorry if I put a damper on anyone’s mood! :) But I had to talk about our top offer!

Have a great weekend everyone!

-Kim
